we actually like how the deck opens up to the backyard. I’m going to have to do something as this was the barrier between stupid people and my pool. I think I’m going to salvage what I can and rebuild off to the left. That was we can have the pool separated from the table/grill area.

I’m going to build framework out of the salvaged wood and infill with metal mesh. Total cost will probably be $100 for the mesh and hardware.

the basement, well fuck the basement

Kinja'd!!!

the tread mill was plugged in and the cord was hanging in the water. I walked across the 2x4, onto the treadmill and then road a desk chair over the the far corner to unplug the cord. There is some stuff that will need to be tossed, like the carpet, a sheet of drywall and a few little things. nothing of any significant value.

I now have a new project on my list, my very long list, install a new industrial size sump pump.

GFCI outlets in the basement? Or was it wired before that was a requirement?

the oulet was still live so either the water didn’t get into the plug or something else was going on.

Running a dehumidifier or two will work wonders for extracting moisture from the walls and whatever else soaked it up.

Well, that sucks. At least it wasn’t too bad. Have you figured out the source of the water? Does the perimeter drainage need to be upgraded ?

I don’t have a basement, but I’ve been slowly installing french drains around the house. The back and sides are almost complete. The front is going to be the next big project.

unfortunately by the time i got home from work the entire floor was covered in 2". the house had a bathroom and family room added on about 25 yrs ago and it seems its coming in all around that part. I drained the water down and the older section seemed to be ok but the new section would fill up after an hour or so. my plan is to pour a concrete step at the opening to the new section and put a large pump in the floor over there.

Well it only trips if it detects current leaking to ground. So that probably didn’t happen if it is a GFCI outlet, or the outlets bad. You can test it with the test button.

Does the house have gutters?

it does, i think the issue is a high ground water level. It stopped raining some time early Saturday and the water is still seeping in.

I’m just glad your house is basically intact, and you’re not homeless.

yea, it could have been way worse. people in town still dont have power. I’ve seem a couple rather large trees sharing space with roofs. Could have been much worse.

Your treadmill probably doesn’t draw enough current while off to make the outlet trip. I think gfci typically takes >5ma short circuit to trip.
